This shower of shitweasels we laughingly call our government are at it again.

Here’s an excellent blog post from Obo referring to this article in the Telegraph in which it is revealed that 270 000 ‘deprived’ families will receive a PC up to the value of £500 and 12 months’ free internet access.

Vernon Coaker, the Schools Minister, said: “We want to give every pupil personalised learning.

Meanwhile, I see from this article in the same paper on the same day that internet piracy measures will cost so much – some £500 million – that it is estimated that the increased costs passed on from ISPs to customers will mean that 40 000 households will be forced to give up internet access because they will no longer be able to afford it.

I’d bet hard cash that those 40 000 households aren’t included in the 270 000 lucky ones who are going to be able to watch porn, play online Bingo and gossip on Facebook at my expense.

I’d also bet that many of them are likely older people, maybe on a pension, who’ve paid into the system for more years than most of these 270 000 ‘deprived’ family heads.

Factor into this contradictory mix the £6 a year levy that everyone with a fixed phoneline will be paying to fund high speed broadband in rural areas and you have yet another massive government-sponsored and taxpayer-funded cluster-fuck in which everything gets paid for at least twice by the taxpayer and the law of unforeseen consequences gets yet another chance to prove itself right.
